While for most of our projects we take the reigns from creative pitch to final delivery, it was an interesting change of pace to plug into Creative Assembly's process for this one and be responsible for the visuals, while leaning on their expansive knowledge of the IP. Our first encounter with the Franchise was with the Omens of Destruction DLC, which we approached in a more traditional way. Gorgeously shaded 3D scenes alongside rich and detailed 2D illustration work tells the stories of each of the three DLC's playable Legendary Lords.

With our second dive into the Warhammer Universe, we wanted to elevate the style and bring something original to the table. So we took the best from the 2D and the 3D, combining them into our proprietary hybrid 3D pipeline and brought literal paintings to life. Four total software packages in the stack to get to the final shot. But is it worth it? Hell yeah it is.

Six Legendary Lord Cinematics down, many more to go.

As a part of the asset package, we designed and animated the probably-most-viewed-image-in-the-entire-game... Yes, the menu screen. This piece is designed to loop seamlessly and yes - each wave is animated by hand.

Sometimes there is no substitute for craftsmanship. And a whole lot of keyframes.
